Not to be a bitter betty or anything, but it’s a little bit of a piss off that the Pittsburg Penguins will be participating in their SECOND Winter Classic, where majority of the NHL hasn’t even had the chance to yet. I understand the Pens/Caps is a heated rivalry, but it isn’t the only one. I suppose we’ll never see a Leafs/Habs or Oilers/Flames Winter Classic, because it seems the Winter Classic is just a ploy to get the Americans attention. Yes, the NHL is a business, but don’t forget where the heart of the game lies. Don’t forget the country that keeps this league alive.
At this rate, I’m going to assume the Florida Panthers will play in the Winter Classic before the Leafs.
The night the Versteeg trade went down, I was off drinking & had no contact with the outside world aka wasn’t on the computer & ditched my cellphone.
It was when I came on Twitter the next day, that I saw a Leaf fan say something about us having Versteeg. I was a little confused, to say the least. Then the news came flooding in from a bunch of fellow Leaf fans. Kris Versteeg for Viktor Stalberg, Paradis & DiDomineco. My first reaction? “VIKTOR STALBERG?! STALBERG?! WHYYYYYY BURKE, WHYYYYYYY” At that point, I was thinking Burke may as well send Luke Schenn off too and then we could end our entire Maple Leafs relationship altogether.
I know, I’m crazy. KRIS VERSTEEG! I’m pumped about this guy, but at the same time, I’m sad to see Stalberg go.
So, Stalberg, although you were less than happy to have your picture taken with me, and I was less than happy that I didn’t say one word to you cause I’m a little chicken shit.. good luck in Chicago. You’ll be a great asset for them in the future.
What hurts most is this is the end of the orginal Frat Pack. We can sign as many college guys as we want, but at the end of the day.. it will always be Bozak, Stalberg & Hanson.
We would just like to say congratulations to the Chicago Blackhawks. Us Leaf fans, (most of us) have been behind you 100%, hoping you guys would finally get to live out the dream after 49 long years. Because of you, we now have the longest drought in the league, but if you’ve shown us anything - it’s that we shouldn’t give up dreaming about the most glorious trophy in all of sports, because our day will one day come too. Congratulations & GO HAWKS GO!
“…AND THE CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS HAVE WON THE STANLEY CUP”
